The Bronze National Navigation Award is a practical hands-on award for runners or walkers. (Conducted at walking pace).

It is aimed at people with no navigation experience whether you are new to the outdoors or have been relying on others, guidebooks or easy well-defined routes. The NNAS Bronze Navigator award is accredited by the Scottish Credit & Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at Level 4, and 2 SCQF credit points are awarded on completion.

This course is split over 2 day with a gap of three weeks between them. This allows time to digest the information and practice your skills between sessions. The maximum tutor to participant ratio is 1:8

It will be held in the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park, and being a very practical course will be entirely outdoors. The exact location will be advised to participants ahead of the course.

The weather can be harsh in the Peak District at any time of year and can change quickly. Also, there will be times during the course where the group is not moving and, therefore, not generating any body heat. 

Therefore, to participate in the course you must have the following kit etc. with you as a minimum. If you are do not have any of the items we may be able to loan you them for the course, but please let us know in advance if this is the case. 

• Clothing suitable for walking in the weather conditions on the day
• Waterproof jacket
• Waterproof trousers
• Walking boots or off-road running shoes
• Warm hat (e.g. fleece or beanie)
• Warm gloves (preferably water proof)
• A warm mid-layer (e.g. fleece or insulated jacket)
• Magnetic compass with base plate (we recommend a Silva Expedition 4)
• Packed lunch
• Sufficient drinks and snacks for a full day outdoors
• Small backpack
• Pen or pencil and note paper
