Race Details

The Winter Bash is a winter version of our popular summer race, Brooksie's Bash 10-Mile Trail Race.

The race will mostly use the same trails around the wonderful South Derbyshire countryside as its summer counterpart. But, as well as going in the opposite direction (clockwise), there will be the added challenge of runners navigating their own way around the course, which will be un-marked.

One of our objectives for the race is to encourage less experienced trail runners to have a go at a 'self-navigation' event. We will therefore provide you with a clear map and written directions, as well as making a gpx file available for those who like to use technology. In addition, we will be offering a guided option for those nervous about getting lost.

So, if you haven't taken part in an self-navigation event before, it is a great opportunity to come and have a go in a friendly and supportive environment. You will need suitable kit for the conditions though, including (as a minimum) the mandatory items specified below).

The race, which will operate under UK Athletics Rules, is open to runners aged 17 and above on the day of the race.  Dogs are not permitted.

Winter Bash Hat (optional extra)

We had "forest green" Bash hats in 2022, "neon orange" in 2023 and we're delighted that the bobble hats will be back for 2024... in RED!

To minimise waste and keep event entry fees down, hats are an optional extra. They can be purchased during the entry process for £13 with entries submitted by 4th January 2024.

Refunds and Transfers

A 70% refund is available up to a month before the race, in the event of the participant withdrawing. However, all refunds will be minus any admin charge by entry processing company:

You may transfer your number to another runner free of additional charge. This must be done by the original entrant using the transfer link in their confirmation email from the entry  system (Fabian4) no later than 31st January 2024.

Our standards Terms & Conditions apply in all other respects.

Use of somebody else's number, without formally arranging the transfer  is NOT allowed.

On the day

On the day registration and race number collection will take place at Ticknall Village Hall between 8:30 and 9:30am. Light refreshments and hot drinks will be available before the race.

The race MASS START will be at 10am from the Village Hall. For those expecting to take longer than 1 hour 50 minutes, you'll have the option to start the race early (between 9:15am and 9:45am) though this will mean that you won't be eligible for prizes based on finishing position, but you will receive a finishing time/position.

Limited car parking is available at the Village Hall and there is some on street parking within the village. DO NOT park on Chapel Street. If parking at the village hall, we encourage you to make a small donation (e.g. £1) in the wall slot, which goes towards maintenance of an asset which is used frequently by many local runners.

Toilets are available both outside and inside the village hall. Please do not use adjacent fields and hedges.

Upon completion of the event, there will be hot food & drink available back in the village hall.

The award ceremony will take place at the village hall as soon as possible after all category winners have finished.

Kit Requirements

It is important that you are dressed and equipped appropriately for a mid-winter race, and give consideration to your own safety in the event that you have to stop or significantly slow down during the event.
