About us:

Our mission at Peak Running is to support everyday people to achieve their running dreams, whatever they may be.

Whether your goal is to get around your local Park Run without walking, beat your personal best for 10k, complete an ultra-marathon, or anything else in-between, we can help. Our approach is to make running fun and rewarding, improving health as well as fitness to achieve improved performance.

Being based in Derbyshire, the home of the Peak District, we have a particular passion for getting out onto the trails and hills. So, as well as our main running coach service, we provide spectacular guided runs in some of the UK's most scenic locations, and also support people new to off-road running to develop their skills.

We are experienced race organisers too, so offer a range of race organisation services to help individuals or organisations get a new event off the ground or keep an existing one alive.

Peak District Trail Running Weekender 2017 Participants

Andy’ s guided run included a route covering various terrain with breath taking scenery. The route was designed to cope with multiple scenarios including injury, fitness and a stop for tea and cake. Andy’s conversation can include wide ranging subjects that supports a holistic approach to running.

It was an inspiration experience that will be repeated.

Andy was recommended to us to write a couch to 10K plan to assist runners of the Derby 10K. He worked with race organisers Sporting Futures to understand the level we were aiming at and was fantastic in providing weekly plans which were published on our website and emailed to all entrants. We've received some really positive feedback from runners and have also heard that local Jog Derbyshire groups also used the plans within their training sessions. We will definitely look to work with Andy on future events.

Had a very productive and useful one-to-one meeting with Andy about ultramarathon nutrition and becoming 'fat adapted'. Andy certainly knows his stuff! He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in this area (and ultras in general) and was more than happy to advise me about this. In addition, he sent me a set of slides about the subject with the offer to contact him if I need any more help.

Very impressed.

Andy is a nice, friendly guy who is more than willing to help and generous with his time.

I have known Andy for a few years and have found him to be friendly, helpful and generous with his time.  His advice is based not only on his training as a coach but also personal experience.

Towards the end of 2016 I somehow came up with the idea to run the Yorkshire 3 Peaks fell race, to be honest Andy may have planted the seed mentioning how many times he’d run the race.  Between us we came up with a training plan, with 'base building', 'peak periods' and recovery periods based on my race calendar – fitting my ability and available time.  I’d previously competed in fell and trail races in Derbyshire but Y3P would be a real step up, one of the few fell races with both cut-off times and qualification requirements.

By putting in the hard yards and following the plan (mostly – sometimes I couldn’t resist racing rather than training) I was ready.  Throughout this time Andy was there with advice and support.

So in April 2017 I completed the Y3P, well under the cut-off times, in 4:37 which was within my target time.  Pen-Y-Ghent is a matter of holding something in reserve, Whernside is where the race really starts and by Ingleborough everyone is tired!  Sub 4:30 next year (weather permitting), after Andy’s help I can see where I can improve with tactics, speed-endurance and nutrition.  I feel another Y3P training plan coming on but I have a hankering for Edale Skyline first.

Brooksie put together the training programme for my 100 km London to Brighton race (off road), it was the first time I had attempted anything over 50 km and not on tarmac! The training schedule was very easy to fit into my life (leaving home at 7 am and not getting home until gone 7 pm didn’t leave much time for training but the schedule made it possible). I finished the race in around 13 hours which I was over the moon with, I certainly couldn’t have done it without the schedule and all of the invaluable support, knowledge and advice that was shared by Brooksie along the way.

Brooksie also recommended and identified some key events for me to use as ‘training’ runs in the build up to my big A race. I couldn’t have asked for more and will definitely be using his services again in the future. I would recommend Brooksie to anyone training for a race no matter what the distance – it will make reaching the finish line that much more achievable and take away the added stress of wondering if you are doing enough and how and when you will fit training in!
