About the event

Meeting at Hathersage train stn, this is a point-to-point Wayfarer where we'll be hopping on the train and heading to Edale for our journeys start! (Full details of train / timings etc. will be in your confirmation email after booking.)

This fantastic route from Edale to Hathersage will explore some of the Peak District Birthday Bash 35km & 70km race routes, making this wayfarer perfect for those that have entered the PD Birthday Bash and are keen to get familiar with some of the route. Equally, this Wayfarer is open to anyone wanting to explore a beautiful area of the Peak District without the pressure of running. As a hike we'll be moving at a relaxed pace, suitable for all in the group.

Making our way out of Edale, we'll head towards Rowland Cote, skirting Nether Moor and once we reach Hope Cross, we'll then be able to see across to Ladybower Reservoir! Six miles in and we'll have reached our highest point at Win Hill trig. It's a steep descent into Bamford before climbing up again towards Stanage Edge, hiking along the Sheffield Country Walk. We'll reach Higger Tor and desend down to the final stretch back to Hathersage!

As well as getting a fantastic day out exploring, there will be opportunity to learn from Matt, who is a highly experienced Mountain Leader. So whether you’re looking for a lovely day out in the safe hands of people who live and breathe the outdoors, or you’d like to gain experience and knowledge for your own big mountain adventures in the future, this is the Wayfarer Hike for you!

Although there will be some flexibility on the route if conditions are harsher than we’d normally expect on a winter day in the hills, expect a committing, challenging route and no lenience on kit requirements.

Distance: If all goes to plan, we'll cover approximately 15-miles across some challenging rock and tricky terrain and ascend around 2,850 feet.
