Date:17th July
Brooksie's Bash is a trail race covering 10 country miles in a beautiful part of South Derbyshire, starting and finishing in the grounds of the spectacular Foremarke Hall.

As well as the main 10-mile race, there is also a 5k race which incorporates a family friendly walk held in conjunction with the Derbyshire Mind 'Enjoying Derbyshire' project. We're delighted to be offering a "bring a friend for free" option for this years' 5k event. Once you've entered, email us at info@peakrunning.co.uk to get a voucher code so that your friend can enter for free! Please note that this promotion is only availble for the 5km race.

Our mission is to provide a good value event which is challenging but suitable for all abilities from the recreational runner looking for their next challenge to experienced racers. The event is a fundraiser for local charity, Derbyshire Mind, so you will also be contributing to a great cause.

If you haven't taken part in an off-road event before it is a great opportunity to come and have a go in a friendly and supportive environment.

As part of our on-going commitment to supporting The National Forest, this year, as well as an option to purchase a t-shirt, you can also choose to plant a tree either instead of or as well as a race tee!

THE VENUE
The race starts and finishes in the spectacular grounds of Foremarke Hall School, near Milton, South Derbyshire. The post code is DE65 6EJ. If driving, please enter the school grounds via the main entrance through the stone gateway. Do not use the unsurfaced track along the western side of the school.

Be aware that there are private residences within the school grounds. Please do not block access and avoid unnecessary noise.

Toilet facilities will be available on site.

THE RouteS
The start and finish area for both distances is in front of the main hall at Foremarke.
From the start the 10-mile race will do a short loop within the school grounds before leaving along the track to the west. It will then consist of a single anti-clockwise loop via Ticknall and Staunton Harold Reservoir, before arriving back into the school grounds from the east.

The vast majority of the route is on unsurfaced footpaths and bridleways. However, there are some short sections of road (about half a mile in total) and a small number of other road crossings.

The advertised distances of 10 miles and 5km has been measured by GPS enabled watch, so therefore can only be considered approximate. Due to the off-road nature of the route it is not practical to have an officially measured and certified distance.

The 5k course takes in part of the route used by the 10-mile race. Most of it is on unsurfaced footpaths but there is a short section of road (about 250 yards long) in the second half.

There are a variety of underfoot conditions and hazards such as uneven surfaces, tree roots, rocks, mud and wooden surfaces on stiles. Participants must take care not to trip or slip, particularly if surfaces are wet.
IMPORTANT: The woodland and entrance drive within the grounds of Foremarke Hall are private and we only have permission to use them for the duration of the race. Please remain on public rights of way only and do not use these areas during training recce runs.

GUIDED TRAINING RUNS
One of our objectives for Brooksie's Bash is to make it doable for runners at all levels. We particularly want to encourage people that haven’t competed off-road before to come and discover the joys of running on the wonderful networks of trails we have in South Derbyshire.

For this reason, we will be put on a series of guided training runs in the area in the lead up to the race itself. These, which have proved very popular, will make the most of the increasing hours of daylight in the evenings, so not to infringe on your weekends. They will take in parts of the race route and distances will start at around 8k (5 miles). They’ll be led by qualified coaches / run-leaders, who will also be able to give advice on training etc., and be geared to suit all running paces.

For more details and to book your place on any of these visit our 'Guided-Run' page here.
DERBYSHIRE MIND
Once again the event will raise funds for local charity Derbyshire Mind, to help them support people affected by mental health issues.
Their team will be on-site throughout the day to support the event and pass on their appreciation for your efforts in raising funds by participating.
